Beng Mealea and Kampong Kleang Full Day

Depart from your hotel go through the national road No.6 down to Phnom Penh city. Today we visit the most interesting of all the temples outside the main Angkor group and for many people the highlights of their time in Cambodia. A two hour drive from Siem Reap, first we take about 30 minutes stop at one of the local market, Dom Dek market to explore the local lifestyle, then go straight to visit to the jungle temple of Boeng Mealea. Boeng Mealea’s layout and style closely mirror that of Angkor wat but here is it the rich, green jungle and the lichen covered stone that dominate. Boeng Mealea is the tangle of tree, towers and vines and has several moody subterranean passageways to explore. Ivy has snaked its way over the bodies of apasara dancers and richly-carved lintels lie strewn in the undergrowth. Fallen block work near the collapsed central tower forces the visitor to scramble over much of the site. We end out stay at this special site with a picnic lunch and then set out one hour journey to the world’s second largest freshwater lake, magnificent ‘Tonle Sap’. Here, board your boat and head onto the lake, passing the village of Kampong Khlang and viewing daily life on the water. This village is a mix of high stilt houses, built above the highest water level, and floating houses. Cruise through the village and see the unique houses on stilts, and the daily life of the village. Our boat will meander slowly through village and grassland canals, allowing you to catch glimpses of flora and fauna and see a truly beautiful eco-system, before emerging onto the Tonle Sap lake itself. Return to your hotel approximately 6 pm.
